"Have courage and be kind for where there is kindness there is goodness and where there is goodness there is magic."
Disney's retelling of its classic fairy tale, Cinderella, can surely live up to the original. It does not lack in quality, beauty, or magic. The film's cinematography excels in the whimsical portrayal of Cinderella's story. Costumes and castles and shoes are all luxurious, impressive, and artistically sound. The music and dancing in the movie is eloquent and entertaining. While the plot of Disney's new adaptation remains similar, the film successfully digs deeper, looking into sides of the romance never shown to the audience.
Characters in the film are well developed and the acting is pleasurable. Lily James does a fantastic job in her role as Cinderella--she's gorgeous, kind, but spirited (attributes fit for a princess). Richard Madden succeeds as a charming prince--handsome, strong, and sincere. Cate Blanchett is a stunning Lady Tremaine, Helena Bonham Carter a whimsical and somewhat humorous fairy godmother.
I would recommend this new film to anyone and everyone, whether they be a little girl marveling in the beauty of their favorite princess, or a grown woman, re-experiencing a fairy tale made new.
