BOYHOOD IS RATED R FOR LANGUAGE INCLUDING SEXUAL REFERENCES, AND FOR TEEN DRUG AND ALCOHOL USE.
Boyhood, directed, produced, and written by Richard Linklater, is considered one of the best movies of the year, receiving some of the highest reviews every seen on Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic, and IMDB. Running 2 hours and forty-five minutes, it is also one of the longest films of 2014.
Linklater had a vision. Filmed over 12 years, with the same actors, Boyhood follows the story of a young boy named Mason as he ages from 5-18, and has changed the face of cinematography forever.
While the thought process alone necessary to craft such a film proves a feat within itself, I found. the plot to be lacking. With all the hype surrounding this movie, I expected more. Even though the movie held a great mix of both humor, and drama, I could not help but feel there was some missing piece.
Regardless, witnessing this boy and his family grow up and mature was--one could say--a once in a lifetime experience. This being said, I do recommend watching this film once, if only to see how drastically everyone and everything changes.
